Milton-Freewater Rural Fire Department MissionMilton-Freewater Rural Fire Department is a progressive department in North Eastern Oregon. Our area covers 325 square miles of diverse terrain and population. From rolling dry land hills on our west side to the forested slopes of the Blue Mountains on our east. We run three ALS ambulances and twelve fire apparatuses out of three stations with a combination of paid and volunteer staff totaling thiry members. Our population base covers urban, rural, and frontier with a growing interface problem. One of our specialties is helibase crash/rescue and communications. We have developed a program in which we supply C/R engines and personnel trained as EMTs and airport C/R to remote helibase and retardent sites throughout the western states. We also set up and maintain portable communication centers at these sites. This greatly improves safety at these sites by promoting better communication air to ground, better communication from the site to IC, better control of flight patterns. Quieter environment for radio operations, more organized paperwork, on site training for helibase/retardent crews, on site EMTs for emergency medical problems, AFFF foam equipment to deal with crashes and/or fire, medical equipment to extend onsite supplies. With dedicated people, intensive training, progressive problem solving minds, and the drive to save and protect lives, property, and the evironment, we the people of Milton-Freewater Rural Fire Dpartment look forward to the next challenge.
